The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 37 | Machinery

When I saw this week’s theme, I knew who I was going to hit up for a photo op!    My dad is a tinkerer.     His garage is filled with old machine parts,  new machine parts and every tool imaginable.    His current passion is to build model engines of all kinds.    So here are a few of his pieces.    On the models… each screw was HAND MADE from rods of metal.    Each piece milled down to millimeters and fashioned to fit perfectly.    Amazing.

Now head on over to Christina Anglum, Katy Texas Photographer   and  see what she has in store for us this week!

Stacey S - Way to go having access to all that great machinery! Your images are absolutely perfect.

Cara - Fabulous shots Rachel what a great record of your dads interest in machinery!

jessican - You had some great subjects this week. That first shot is gorgeous.

Christina - fabulous bokeh in those first few. these are so cool!

Amy - What a cool place! I can’t imagine having that kind of talent. So lucky to have a close relative who does! Great job, Rachel!

Tamara - Perfect location for this weeks theme. Great job

The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 36 | Pile or Stack

Ok.. I’m going to go ahead and admit I left this to the last second this week.    I didn’t even know WHAT the theme was until late last night.   “Pile or Stack”     Huh!?!??    Great.   What do I do… Take a picture of the Pile of laundry I haven’t done this week… or the Stack of dishes needing to be put in the dishwasher??      Not to mention I’m on call this weekend and so I will be going to the clinic first thing in the morning… and then it hit me.   THE STACK!     At our vet clinic each patient has a record.   We keep all the records in the treatment area of animals that are at our hospital at the time.    We call it “the stack”    sometimes even  “the pile”      This weekend is particularly large.   My patients include:

A dog that was hit by a car and collapsed a lung… doing well now.

A dog mauled by a group of other dogs… he’s felt better but he’s recovering.

A ancient yorkie with kidney failure… he is keeping everyone up with his barking.

3 kittens (about 4 weeks old)  my father in law “found” and now I’m trying to teach how to eat on their own… 1 out of three got it.

And a dog that the owner swears was chased in the woods by someone carrying a machete… the owner never SAW this but insists thats what happened…. He is doing great, although resembles Frankenstein.

And that is just the ones in “ICU”

So without further ado… I must get back to my “stack”

Now lets see what Christina, Katy Houston Texas Photographer has on her plate this morning!

Stacey S - Wishing all pups and kitties a speedy recovery! That stack is perfect for this week.

Ali C - I’m glad you’ve got all those furry friends on the road to recovery! I love the light and composition of your image!

Cara - That is one big stack. Your work must be incredibly gratifying and heartbreaking in one!

kristin m. young - i am going to have to start calling you the pet whisperer–that is an impressive stack!

jessican - Wow look at that paperwork. Sorry to hear about the doggies – I hope they are feeling better.

Amy Lucy - Wow. There was a point in my life when I briefly considered becoming a vet because I adore animals, but I never questioned whether it would be an easy job. I admire you for all that you do. I wish I could bring my dogs to you and their charts to that stack. :)

Rachel McPhillips - Fantastic take.. and glad those fur-babies are doing well!

The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 35 | Neighborhood Walk…

ok… Its Sunday.   And I cheated.    I admit it.

See… the thing is,  we don’t live in a neighborhood.   This is what I told myself when selecting this image for this week.    But it IS an image of our community.  Up on the hill… in the trees.    Phoenix, MS.    Population varies… depending on the time of year… and if you count the cows, horses, pigs, armadillos and possums..   I love it here.    Its in the middle of nowhere and the center of my heart.

This was taken while Tropical Storm Lee made his way over our section of the world.   Brought lots of much needed rain for us.   Thanks Lee… appreciate it!

Now head on over to CARRIE TERRONES and see whats going on in her neighborhood!

Stacey S - What a fantastic image! So glad you got the much needed rain.

robyn - great images…and glad you hear you got the rain you needed.

Cara - Love all the open space and trees!

jessican - Wow what an amazing sky! We got some of Lee here too and it caused tons of flooding. Glad you got some well deserved rain.

Carrie Terrones - Wow…what a lovely shot of an intense storm. Beautifully captured!

Ali C - Wow! What a gorgeous landscape. The colors are so rich and intense!

Amy Lucy - Such a pretty sight! I love the country!

The Bloom Forum | 10 on 10 | September 2011

In case you forgot what my 10 on 10 project entails:

Each month, on the 10th of the month,  our group of 10 photographers will post a photo essay of a day in the lives of their family.    Preferably 10 images… shot roughly an hour apart for 10 hours.     Our goal is to get back to what made us pick up a camera in the first place… wanting to capture our family memories forever.   An attempt at preserving a sliver of our lives.

The day is Sunday… it could be any Sunday, but this happens to be Sunday, September 5, 2011.   We just got home from church.   Tropical Storm Lee is heading our way and promises to bring lots of rain our way….

Before the deluge..  We spent some outside time.   Cameron immediately took to his favorite activity of the moment… Bug Hunting.

Coley decided to attempt a spin on the Big Wheel… something her legs are not long enough for yet… she got pretty frustrated.

After Lunch we went to go watch a movie,   The kids decided to make a  camp out…

After the movie.. everyone took REAL naps.. even mommy and daddy.   I managed to catch this one before he woke up…

As soon as Coley woke up.. she joined Cameron in his bed.   He was not thrilled.

A game of footsie war ensued..

Cameron wanted to go out and play in the rain.

So we said… “WHY the heck NOT??!?!?”

And loaded up in the Truck to do what real “rednecks” do in the middle of a tropical storm…

Drive around and “look”….

Later the children had to entertain themselves indoors… I almost didn’t include this one because it shows the mess their “playroom/our foyer” was in… but hey… its real life… and its our life…  You CAN see my good intentions there in the corner… see the broom??!?!

And we followed it up with a great supper!    As I watched her… I just kept thinking to myself… there is nothing funnier at the table than watching a two-year old eat!

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL month with your families!     Now don’t forget to make the rounds!   Next up is Emily at Camelia Street!     See ya next month!!!!

Vicky - Looks like a great day. You little one are really adorable….and what a relief to know that play areas at other peoples houses also look like they had a storm of their own 😉

Nancy - Rachel ~ Great images!! Love the one about the “rednecks” ~ that is so true :) Your kids are adorable!!

Carrie Terrones - Oh%20Rachel…BUG%20HUNTING%3F!%3F!%20Ewe!%20I%20am%20so%20glad%20my%20Chase%20hasn’t%20figured%20that%20one%20out%20yet!%20Love%20each%20of%20these%20images%2C%20especially%20the%20window%20shot.%20What%20gorgeous%20light.%20Looks%20like%20a%20great%20day!

Alli - Love your narration…it really helps the images come to life! And that first image is so precious with those great smiles!

Callie - Adore these Rachel! I can smell the MS in the first one…that smell that comes right before or as it starts to rain in Mississippi (I’m from McComb). This whole post makes me miss home. and I ADORE the one of your boy looking out the window..wow!

Kathy - It’s so liberating for kids to play in the rain. What a great way to spend a rainy day! Thanks for sharing!

emily horton - I love all of these! my favorite is the one where they’re looking out at the rain. :-)

Jessica Holden - Oh Rachel these are priceless! I especially love the one of Cameron in the window light–so soft and beautiful!
