The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 13 | Depth of Field

This week our theme for the Bloom Forum Project 52 is “Depth of Field, Focus, Bokeh”

For any of you non-photographer jargonized people out there following this, Depth of field refers to the amount of things that are in focus in a photograph. That picture with the “blurry background”… thats bokeh. The trick is to get all the things you want in focus but keeping everything else out of focus. You can achieve this by shooting in Manual mode and controlling the settings on your camera.

This week I am submitting a photograph I shot during a spring session I did for a friend. So far he is the only “client” I have. He allows me to give my kids a break from the camera and still practice so its a win-win situation! He was getting pretty outdone by the time this one was taken… and I was trying to play with him a bit and hid behind a porch column. It actually ended up being one of my favorites!
Hope you all enjoy!

Don’t forget to check out Robyn Oakenfold, of Little Bug Photography to see what she’s focusing on!

The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 12 | Hands

Post day for week 12 has finally arrived for the Bloom Forum’s Project 52! This week our theme is “Hands” One thing I LOVE about this project is that sometimes I *think* I have in mind what I want to shoot and then something happens or I find myself at a moment in time that I know I want to capture. This is what happened to me this week.

Saturday mornings, if no one has to work, are usually lazy mornings. As the kids wake up, they usually make their way to our bed and things often turn into a game of “The Claw” You may remember the movie “Liar Liar” where the dad plays this game with his son He pretends his hand is a demon claw and tries to grab at his face… well we have our own version of this game and after laughing at the kids for a few minutes I went and grabbed my camera. Of course… you know what happens then… it seems like part of the moment is lost, but I still managed to get some typical giggles. Cameron even managed to let me get a picture of his new snaggle-tooth look! He lost his first tooth last night! I can’t believe how fast he is growing up!

I also got to use my new Moirai Compositor this week! I WON it as a contest prize as part of The BLOOM Beginnings and Create Workshop that I just started last week. It has been SO much fun ( the class and the Compositor) and I cannot believe how easy it is to use. I haven’t even bothered to read the directions yet, but I will as I know it can be customized so much more. DEFINITELY at super prize! I had my eye on it for months, but because it was a little costly I had put it off. If your a photog.. take a look at it! Its worth the price!

Don’t forget to check out the rest of our circle! Robyn Oakenfold, of Little Bug Photography is sure to have a great entry!

The Bloom Forum | Fab 15 | Week 11 | Morning

Another week’s installment of the Bloom Forum’s Project 52! I am LOVING this project. Not only does it keep me shooting, but it keeps me thinking and striving to be creative. This weeks theme was Morning.

This photo was taken in our horse pasture. At least that is what it was MEANT for. Turns out our horses had a sensitivity to the grass and we had to fence it off. So it grew and grew and grew. Its now waist deep in places! Its so pretty and green I just HAD to have a shoot with my kids there. Unfortunately we ALL got a rash from playing in the grass…but the pictures turned out great! And the morning light was beautiful! The price we pay for pretty pictures!

Now lets continue the circle! Head on over to Robyn Oakenfold of Little Bug Photography and she how her morning was!
